Face Painting Cincinnati

So, here I go...posting my very first blog. I am feeling so 2001 right now. Actually, in honesty, I am very excited. I have wanted to blog for a very long time. I wanted an outlet for my passion for face painting. I very much love my job and nearly everything about it.

For starters, I wanted to talk about what my goals are for my blog, but before I get there, I want to back up to 2008 when I first started and talk to you about my journey to being here today. It will give you some insight to why I want to blog about face painting to begin with.

In 2008, I was a stay at home mom who had dove head first into ministry work. All kinds of ministry and outreach work, but it didn't take long for my church family to realize I was artistic and after doing murals, backdrops and all sorts of art projects for the church, they asked me to paint faces for a harvest festival. Now if you are a face painter reading this, I know so many of you have similar stories and can relate.

They bought me crappy, craft face paints from Hobby Lobby and told me to have at it! I had no idea what I was getting into, and it was crazy and chaotic, but the kids were so happy and I loved every second of it! I painted for them a couple times, still using the paints they provided, and then they found me a helper, a partner in crime of sorts. We wanted to try to do what the amusements parks were doing, full faces, but had no idea where to start, and so Jen, my lovely partner in crime, dearest friend and owner of Dayton Face Painters, bought creme Halloween Makeup. It didn't take long for us to realize it was horrible, and not at all what we had hoped. The research was on, looking for professional products, on a very tight budget, and we poured hundreds of hours into research. Back then there were no groups, no Facebook, no forum. Just a couple of websites with some minimal information, and we tried our hardest to sort it out. There were only a couple local painters, and they weren't really interested in helping out new painters, and I understood, but I was frustrated. I just wanted a little help with products and how to find potential clients. I have a couple things I am really grateful to that church for, and still grateful to God for, from that time in my life. I met Jen Doss, who is still my partner in crime. I met Ron Wilson, may he rest in peace and he brought us to Ronald McDonald House, where we still volunteer and then there is face paint. Face Painting changed my life.

I have spent the last 8 years figuring it out, and I am still figuring it out. It is no exaggeration when I say I have spent thousands of hours researching kits, paints, brands, safety, faces, brushes, techniques, line management, websites, pricing, sanitation and so much more, and then hundreds if not thousands of hours practicing. I have taken course upon course to try to improve my skill and I am still trying to conquer the beast we call business, and that is the biggest challenge for me.

So back to why I am here, why I am rambling on, I am here to talk to beginners and give them information that frustrated me so much when I started. Basically I am here to help. I plan to talk about everything from business marketing, my business network philosophy, to line management, to tips on keeping your clients once you have them. I know this was a dry start, but bear with me and promise the information will get better with each blog.
